About the Scholarship
The scholarship fund aims to recognize and support students who excel in scholarly and creative writing endeavors during their time at Tyngsboro High School. Through this initiative, we seek to reward and inspire students to engage in rigorous academic research and creative storytelling, ensuring that Neill’s love for knowledge and expression continues to impact future generations.

Scholarship awards are granted each spring based on an independent evaluation of writing submissions by Tyngsboro High School graduating seniors based on the criteria described below.
Submissions for students graduating in 2026 are open on begin February 1.
We are proud that our panel of judges for the 2026 cycle include published writers, editors, and educators.
Students who are currently in their senior or final year at Tyngsboro High School in Tyngsboro, MA may submit up to a total of two pieces of writing in either of two categories.
Most Outstanding Academic Paper – Awarded to the student who submits the most well-researched, analytically rigorous, and original academic work.

Most Outstanding Creative Writing – Awarded to the student who produces the most compelling, imaginative, and skillfully crafted piece of creative writing, with a strong preference for short stories in prose.

There are no limitations on word count in submissions, however however shorter submissions of less than 3,000 words are strongly preferred and are more likely to advance in judging.
For submissions in the academic paper category, these may be ay papers in any subject or topic which were formally submitted as part of an assignment during the student’s time at THS.​
For submission in the creative writing category, although exceptional poetry will be accepted, short stories in prose are strongly preferred and more likely to advance in judging.

Submissions are judged based on predefined criteria including originality, clarity, depth of analysis, and overall excellence.

The cycle for submissions opens on January 1 and closes on March 31.

Final determinations will be determined and announced by May 15,.
Selection and Award Process
Each year an independent panel of judges review submissions and select winners based on predetermined criteria.
The specific monetary amount of each award will be determined annually based on fund availability.
